You might say that Dave Emmons was passionate about the meat business. All he ever wanted to do was cut meat and run his own business. When he and his family opened Dave Emmons Meat Co. in 1962, he had already been cutting meat for several years at his store in Brownsville, Oregon.
Dave wanted to be more centrally located and he chose East Van Buren Avenue (now Highway 34) just east of Corvallis, Oregon. At first he sold frozen meat cuts and meat packs as well as did custom slaughtering and game processing. He never quit trying to find a better way to make his products and services the very best they could be.
Over the years, as his customers’ needs and preferences changed, the focus of the business shifted. Today, Emmons Meat Market sells buffalo, beef, poultry, pork, ham and bacon, and other smoked products which are produced right here in our smokehouse. We also offer special occasion meats such as prime rib, spiral-sliced ham and smoked salmon.
We also have a lunch counter where we feature our products in delicious sandwiches for the hearty appetite.
But our primary product is jerky. Some say it’s the world’s best.
Dave died in 2007, but the family business he built lives on. In the Emmons family tradition, Dave’s passion for making high-quality products that our customers love continues in the capable hands of our manager, Darin Nash. Darin apprenticed with Dave for 20 years and runs the Market with the same care and attention.
